Troop 65 Committee

Interested in Volunteering?

Troop 65 is always looking for adults willing to volunteer on our committee. This group sets troop policies and handles administrative functions, allowing the Scoutmaster and assistant Scoutmasters to focus on working directly with the Scouts. The committee also is integral in the advancement process by meeting with the Scouts for Boards of Review to complete ranks.

Do I need to have been a scout as a youth or experience to volunteer?

No! No prior experience in Scouting, whether as youth or as an adult in necessary. While some of our leaders have experience in Scouting as a youth, most have no experience when they join.

WHAT IS REQUIRED OF ME TO BE a committee member?

We do have expectations of our Committee. We ask that all members attend the monthly committee meeting and actively participate to ensure the Troop operates efficiently and participate regularly in scouts' Boards of Review for ranks. We also ask committee members to consider volunteering in one of our committee roles, such as treasurer, outdoor activities coordinator, advancement coordinator, membership coordinator, training coordinator, and more.

DO I NEED TO COMPLETE ANY TRAINING?

There are specific requirements from Scouting America for all Committee Members (CMs) as direct contact leaders. All CMs must take Safeguarding Youth annually through an online training modules. Additionally, each CM must take position specific (Committee Member) training through an in-person class or online webinar. Certain committee roles (treasurer, advancement coordinator) also have additional training modules to complete online.

Do I have to pay to be a Committee member?

Scouting America does charge fees for adult leaders, but our Troop committee has long believed that adults should not have to pay to volunteer. As a result, our Troop pays for the leader fees and any position-required leader training. Uniforms are not required for members of the committee, but should you choose you want to wear the uniform, there are additional costs associated with those items.
